About the Blog

While the Blogger profile provides a bit of information about me, this section is meant to expand on that profile as well as provide the purpose of this blog.

I have been a fan of film for years and began writing screenplays at the age of twelve. These screenplays were fantastic. They were sequels to sequels that nobody cared about, one standout being Darkman IV, which had some ridiculous subtitle that I can't remember and was a script that was a little over two pages long. Unfortunately, none of these screenplays that I wrote were ever produced, and I realized that in order to work with film, I probably had to write about the medium. Nine years later I began a blog, and ever since I have been blogging about movies on and off on this site as well as my brother's site for the Bangor Daily News, Joel Talks Movies.

The title of this blog is sort of borrowed from the short film A 8 944 km de Cannes directed by Walter Salles, which was part of a short film collection titled To Each His Own Cinema. The films from that collection were made for the 60th anniversary of the famous film festival, and while the short film is nothing like my life situation, the dream of one day going to the Cannes Film Festival and seeing cinema from around the world is an important one. I have no idea how I'll ever travel 3,616 miles for a film festival when I can't even make it to the New York Asian Film Festival, which is much closer.

With this blog there will be some reviews posted along with general commentary about the state of film and filmgoing. The topics of the posts, the genres, and the "quality" of the films discussed will vary.
